Due to a lack of funding and sponsorships the Visible Spectrum Awards has assumed a very low profile over the last few years. However the SASC members of our board have still been active in assisting the industry in many ways and on many committees within the industry locally and internationally the entire time.
We have accepted that it is time to elevate our presence once again in the Film and Television industry. We believe that the standard of cinematography can be improved and our wish is to readdress the situation by once again reinstating the Visible Spectrum Awards. This annual event showcases the work done by homegrown Cinematographers across all the various genres.
This prestigious event will for be a casual affair, making it accessible for all industry participants.
The SASC board of governors is very pleased to announce the establishment of SASO – South African Society of Operators which is a new entity associated directly with the SASC. SASO membership is open to camera operators and specialist cinematographers who have undertaken work that does not conform to the full SASC membership criteria.
The society is proud to announce that the SASC are now fully associated members to IMAGO, the European Federation of Cinematographers. All our members are listed within the IMAGO directory and web-site. A total of forty-two countries represented are listed and listed therein. Their new updated directory is expected later this year.
The closing dates for the VSA entries is Friday 23rd October 2015. The Visible Spectrum Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday 21st November, the venue of which will be announced at a later stage.
The society recently received an invitation from the president of the American Society of Cinematographers – ASC, to attend the International Cinematography Summit Conference in Los Angeles. We were represented by SASC board member Vincent Cox ASC, SASC, BSC. Our SA showreel was nominated amongst the top three showreel’s, as voted by the international attending delegates.
